Project Introduction
MY ROLE :
UX Researcher
CONTEXT & TIME :
A design challenge for a company
where I had to come up with a research plan in 3 days
Then show the basic implementation in 3 days
Problem Statement
Clarifying questions (regarding context)
Why are we trying to enter the F & B market?
Why are we not trying to create a product from scratch vs using a similar product?
Who do we define as F&B market folks?
By when do we want the F&B product to be ready for rolling?
Who all do we envision as using this product?
What challenges have inspired us to go in this direction?
Does this product already exist in other industries (apart from software?)
STAGE 1 : Research Plan
I then proceeded to prepare for the stakeholder meeting, mentioned in the challenge - for which I had to create a detailed stakeholder plan
Defining first draft of research goals
Thought Process Add

What deliverables would we aim for?
Thought Process Add
How to involve stakeholders in the process?
Putting down some basic assumptions
Assumptions include :
Reasons for assumption : Starting ground has to be the same for people to understand what I mean / how I thought through this
Research Plan (Before consulting with stakeholders)

(Zoom in for best view!)
How would research change throughout the process?
Though process behind this was inspired by the 4 step research iterative cycle by NN group
Context related research requirement
Who are likely to be the 'users' in the ERP for Food & Beverage industry?
How to prioritize results?
How can we get to product success?
How to follow up so that research gets implemented?
What user research metrics would be appropriate in this case?
How can this help in other industry ERP implementation?
STAGE 2 : RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Research Plan
Constraints that I faced
Preparing for stakeholder interview
Stakeholder Interview Synthesis
Challenges in F&B Industry
Scouring for competitors
User Interview Process
Consent form sent to User Interviewers
User Journey Mapping
Since I didn't have enough information for a persona map, I made a quick user introduction section
Synthesis form the user interviews
Painpoints as illustrated by the user
Iterated Research Plan
Process of uncovering Insights
Ideally, I'd interview about 5-6 people wearing very specific hats. Then summarize what they're saying, find patterns with affinity mapping.
To this, I'd bring in my understanding of them (empathy part) and their answers to whys
This will help me understand the underlying motivation and needs
Over here, if we bring in domain knowledge and business knowledge, we can uncover actionable insights.
My limitation
However, considering the very specific nature of the problem statement, it was difficult to locate users who could even role play this scenario well.
From 1 user, I was able to uncover the below insight.
